Last summer I shared how I dyed some things and removed the color from others (you can read about that here) and I recently hit the pink dye again and thought I'd share those results!
I had three white tops that I bought on super sale at the end of last summer knowing that I wanted to dye them pink since I didn't need them (or already owned them) in white. It's always interesting to see how different fabric take the same dye. I had a linen top, a cotton top, and the lace top that is cotton with polyester embroidery on it and the poly cami for underneath. Poly doesn't absorb the dye much, so it is a much paler pink that is really pretty, I think.
I got out my trusty turkey roasting pan and used the stove top method with a box of Petal Pink Rit Dye and followed the directions on the box. It might have been easier to "stir" if I didn't do them all at once, but I used a pair of tongs and was able to move them around enough to distribute the dye everywhere (including the stove. LOL)
I love the lighter color embroidery on this top!
Here they are out of the pan and ready to go through a cycle of the washing machine.
I used the lighter pink water that was left in the pan to dye this tshirt. It was a light dirty peach color (I ordered it online and didn't really care for that color on me when I received it.) Here's the new color just out of the dye bath...
And here it is washed and dried. I like it much better now! (This song by Michael W. Smith became "my song" of the pandemic, and I ordered it early in our confinement last spring.) It's interesting to see how the same bright pink turned out on the shirt that was already a peach color - also there wasn't as much dye left in the pan, so that could have made a difference.
I'm super happy with the way the others turned out, too! All three fabrics turned a similar color except the poly embroidery and the cami, but I love the contrast on those! JCrew should make the top in this color!
It's so easy to give new life to old clothes or to great sale items. I hope this inspires you to try it!
Have an awesome day! Love, Debby xoxo
They turned out beautiful. I need to try that. Thanks for the idea again.
