This summer is speeding by, isn't it?! My summer officially started in mid-June when I got home from Italy. Jeremy and Becca were already in town from Florida for a visit. Have you heard the wonderful news? I'm going to be a grandma!! They surprised us with the news, and I burst out crying, I was (and am!) so happy for them. She's due at the end of the year - it's so exciting!
We had some highly competitive games of Phase 10...
and enjoyed our time together! (With my mom and dad.)
We had a family picnic at our house for the 4th of July. It was a scorcher, like so much of this summer has been for everyone, so some of us ate in the pool. I've gone in the pool just about everyday. It's just a little (about 12' x 18") pool but perfect for cooling off!
We really enjoy our waterfront here in Buffalo! It was such wasted land for most of my life, so to see all the good things happening there has been really fun, and we try to enjoy it as often as we can.
We've gone on three bike ride adventures... this one was about a twenty mile round trip from Lewiston, NY, along the Niagara River to Fort Niagara. I still love my bike! :)
We've packed a lot of class kits with help from our supervisor, Buddy.
I stopped to see Brandon outside Pittsburgh, PA, where he is stationed in the Army, when I was on my way to a trade show in Utah and teaching in San Diego. One of the places he took me to is a place in the city called Randyland. This eccentric guy, Randy, has transformed his yard into the hodgepodge of a little bit of everything. I got a photo of Brandon and I reflected in the mirror collage on his fence.
We went to the Vintage Grand Prix car race in Pittsburgh on a super hot day...
I got to see him off to work one day...
Buddy is my buddy - he wants to be right in the center of whatever I'm doing!
I've had a few ice cream cones... (too many!) My favorite flavor is the local brand, Perry's Ice Cream Sponge Candy. On their website you can search by flavor and see which places serve it. Soo good! (This is a small at Bubbaloo's.)
We went on the Garden Walk in Buffalo. Some of the gardens are so gorgeous - I'll have to do a separate post about those. These two cute little houses weren't even on the tour, but should have been!
At an estate sale next door to that yellow cottage, I got these salt and pepper shakers for $1. I love that they are plastic and the grandpa in his rocking chair has a dog and grandma has a cat.
I thought it was interesting that they are stamped "Hong Kong" on the back.
Another bike ride we did was to Niagara on the Lake in Canada. With stricter border crossing inspections, it has gotten to be harder and much slower to cross the border into Canada, which is so close by, but we don't go over there very often anymore. We went early on a Sunday morning this time, so we made it over without a wait, but had to wait about 45 minutes when we came back at noon. Not too bad! The town of Niagara on the Lake is so picturesque with their lush flower displays lining the streets.
Of course, after all that bike-riding, we had to have gelato! We found this place in town and learned that the owner moved to the area from Florence, Italy, so the gelato was homemade and really good!
We've gone to the jazz concerts at the art gallery on Sunday. I enjoy old-fashioned "smooth" jazz (as do these two strangers who entertained us with their dance steps! This man was dancing by himself and then a lady from the crowd got up to join him. They were pretty good!)
Brandon came up last weekend for his birthday. Grandma had to do a new measurement on her door to see how much he's grown. (We should have taken down the contraption she uses to stretch!) He'd kill me for posting this photo - good thing he doesn't read my blog!
While he was here, we did something I've wanted to do for years - rent kayaks and paddle along the waterfront on the Buffalo River.
It was a lot of fun!
He's back home now and our summer marches on...
Today I'm working on trips for next year and ordering products for new classes in the fall. I'll share photos soon!
I shipped extra kits to California for my classes this Saturday in Cupertino, near San Jose, so it's not too late to sign up. All the class info can be found HERE.
How has your summer been? Are you keeping cool? xoxo
