What a blessing good friends are! Especially those you've known for a long time - you have been through so much together, knowing the good and the bad, and they love you anyway! My two Debbie friends are those kind of friends to me. (I'm the lone Debby with a y in the trio.)
For over twenty years we have been getting together once a month, at a restaurant that we take turns choosing, to catch up on our lives and, most importantly, to share things deep in our hearts and commit to praying specifically for those things. We have filled notebooks over these 20+ years with joys and heartaches for our families, friends, and ourselves. We have seen many, many answers to those prayers - and we never give up praying either!
Our most recent get-together...
We became friends about 25 years ago teaching together at Christian Central Academy. One Debbie left first and has taught pre-K in a public school for twenty years, and then I left to stay home with my kids and then eventually to have this whole scrapbook teaching adventure, and then the other Debbie left and teaches special ed in a public high school. We don't live very near each other, so we make the drive to opposite ends of the area to get together, but our faith and our friendship makes our dinners a priority.
LOL - this is one of my favorite photos ever! This is in my classroom in about 1992. How about that hair! I have my hair up in a ponytail with perfect ringlets on the sides. I'm wearing a velvet jumper that I made and the embroidered collar blouse was very "Diana" inspired. And how about that Christmas light bulb necklace?
We sure have had a lot of laughter (and tears) over the years. If you'd like to pray with us, one of the Debbies is undergoing chemo for her third bout with ovarian cancer over the last several years. Pray for her strength during this process and a full recovery!
I wish I could post a photo of every friend I have around the world - my friends here across the US, in France and Italy and South Africa and Israel and Norway and scattered around the world. How did this girl from Buffalo get to be so lucky? I am thankful every day!
