It's so much fun to share the photos from this special night... I relive it as I share it! In case you missed the story of how we came to be able to attend this special event, here's the scoop: I have been to Highclere Castle, where Downton Abbey was filmed, three times before with groups of ladies and by myself, but my husband, who watched the show, too, had never been and hoped to be able to go there during our vacation to London. It wasn't open to the public during our time in England, but I found a listing of a Christmas Ball (a Christmas dinner party) at the castle and inquired about available tickets. They said it had been sold out for months but they would start a waiting list for us. In September I got an email saying that someone had canceled and two tickets could be ours... we were thrilled with the opportunity to go there at Christmas!
If you missed part 1 of our visit, you can find that blog post HERE.
My souvenir of the evening was this pretty hand-painted ornament. I'll have such fun memories of this evening every year when I hang it on our Christmas tree!
My all time favorite episode of Downton Abbey was when Matthew proposed to Mary in the Christmas episode, so it was so much fun to be there and see the house decorated for Christmas.
After dinner we gathered by the grand staircase to sing carols with a local choir...
I kept thinking to myself, "Am I really here?"
We had more time to mingle and wander throughout the house...
Coffee and petit fours were served in the dining room. I caught a photo of us in the mirror there.
Sadly the evening had to end. We arrived about 6:30pm and finally drove away after 11pm. They had to kick us out - no one wanted to leave! :)
It was a magical, lovely evening! One of the coolest things ever! (Do I look happy?)
