In the Venice lagoon is the colorful little island of Burano and that was our destination today.
We took a vaporetto around through the Grand Canal and saw lots of interesting sights - remember, with no cars or trucks, everything comes and goes by boat here.
Soon we were at the dock to catch the boat for the 45 minute ride to Burano.
Our first stop was for lunch for the island specialty - a spectacular fish risotto. It was dreamy!
I love the curtains that hang at each doorway to keep the homes cool. Can I take off my front door and hang a curtain instead? :)
Yes, this tower really does lean this much!
We explored all around the island and then went on to another tiny island in the lagoon, Torcello. It was just too hot to really enjoy it - we took a look around at the church and peered at the pretty gardens and then made our way back to Venice.
We decided to walk back home and not use a map - we finally found the Accademia Bridge sign!
Another leaning tower...
(That's my new "Louis Vuitton" bag that I bought from a guy's blanket in Florence. :)
We got cleaned up and went back out for the evening - to wander the streets again and to take our first gondola ride. Now I can say that I did it but I wish we'd chosen a better gondelier. My clue that he wouldn't be so great was that he went into a bar to get a Bloody Mary just before we left. Hmmm...
It was beautiful - I like some black and white photos for a change...
(He was pretty much of a jerk.)
After the sun set we went to one of the ourdoor cafes in Piazza San Marcos to listen to the band we liked best. It was worth every penny for the coffee and french fries that we had! It was magical - the band played until 12:30am - and in Italy, once you have a table, you have it for the night! It was one of the most memorable evenings ever. I LOVED it!
The next day we took the train from Venice to Munich - you can read about that here, if you haven't already.
Thanks for reading and following along as I relived this adventure! I'll have one more post about packing - just like I did after my trip to Paris and London in April, I took a picture of what I packed and what I actually wore and will tell a little more about the essentials that I take on every trip.
I'm off to Salt Lake City to go to the SPC Mixed Media trade show there on my way to Oklahoma City on Friday to teach at Paper Crown this weekend. The fun doesn't end!! :)
