For the first time ever I took a little bag of supplies with me to work in my Documented Life Project journal just in case I had a little extra time during my weekend in Texas. Sunday night the whole area froze over in the ice storm that hit the Dallas area AND the Academy Awards were on TV, so it was the perfect time to play and catch up on one of the weekly challenges that I missed since I got a late start this year.
This challenge was to be inspired by something you've pinned on Pinterest, so I looked back at my "pins" and found this image that I've loved for awhile... an art journal page by Judy Scott. (I don't know Judy but thank her for her inspiration!)
As I worked on my page, I had Judy's page in mind but didn't have it open on my computer in front of me. I remembered that there was blue in the background, that there were birds and roses, and that there were circles with text in them.
This is how mine turned out...
I had painted the background with blue acrylic paint a couple weeks ago and splattered it with orange neon paint with an old toothbrush, but I set it aside and didn't use it right then. I brought it along and used it as the background for this creation. I poked a hole with my scissors and tore two holes and then glued a couple pages from a old dictionary on the backside of the paper, so the text would peek through the holes.
(I swear that the bees on the dictionary page was completely a random happy-stance!)
I used the glue just around the edges of the circles and then tore the paper away along the edge on the back side.
I cut some roses and leaves from an old sheet of Anna Griffin paper...
and added some old Jenni Bowlin rub ons and tiny Midori rub on letters...
I added a little doodling around the circles and along the edges. Another little strip of the dictionary paper finished off the page, and it was ready to tape into my planner with this sweet Liberty print washi tape from Merci in Paris.
I think the back side even looks cool!
I got a second page done in the hotel room too - this week's challenge was to make a list of the things that make you YOU. I used rows of washi tape to make "lines" to write on and added some pink watercolor paint between the lines of tape. My hairdryer came in handy to speed up the drying process!
I bought a sheet of paper from a new collection from Crate Paper at The Crafty Scrapper where I had been teaching over the weekend and cut a couple of the little girls out of the paper. I also bought a package of the matching ephemera and used the numbers to make a list.
I decided to just randomly list things about me as they came to mind...
Then I sat there reading what I had written and wondering what to do with the other side of the page, and then it occured to me - there is another side to me - hopefully the old me - the not so nice side, the side that if I just did whatever I wanted to without any consideration for others or for what God wants me to be, would be on the front side. :) I added some more rows of tape and more thoughts - I am so thankful that I'm not usually this person - that God helps me to hopefully be the person He wants me to be. As a reminder, I included a verse from Ephesians at the end. I also included the words that I could go back and forth between - do you know what I mean?
When I got home I cut the word "ME" from vellum to add over the list - another layer of who I am! I added the page into my planner with washi tape.
Another page done that just makes me happy - It is a good reminder of who I am and who I want to be! Are you playing along too?
Have a great day! I'm off to San Francisco today!
