Because I fly USAirways almost all the time, my connecting flights are through Charlotte or Philadelphia about 95% of the time. On Sunday morning, when I was checking my flight information for my journey home, I realized that my connection this time was through Washington, DC, and that I had almost a two hour layover that night. Hmmm... might be long enough to say hi to Brandon as long as we didn't leave the airport. I've had a couple other layovers there but they've always been during his work day, so I couldn't see him then.
I messaged him to see if he would be able to come see me there and he could! I took off just after noon on the west coast and landed a little over four hours later in the dark - such a weird feeling. The sunset was amazing from my window!
I met Brandon and his friend Michelle just outside security and we got to visit for a little while before I had to go back through security and on home.
I'll do just about anything for a hug from my kids! Some of you have followed Brandon's story over the years with me - from when he joined the Army over four years ago and then got married soon after that. (I don't think the girls in my class in San Antonio will never forget the day when I came to class and told them that I'd found out that morning that he had gotten married earlier that week. It was quite a shock!) It's been a rocky road over the years, and it's with a huge mix of emotions that I'm sharing that he is divorced. He's been alone since last June - it's been a lonely and difficult time for him, but I'm thankful and hopeful that both he and Alicia will each find the right person for them and truly be happy. Like every mom, I just want my kids to find love, have faith, enjoy their work, and be thankful people - that's my prayer everyday!
It's snowing and bitterly cold here again today - can't wait to get to Florida next week!
